The front door opened and Fredo filed through with Tion on his trail, causing me to stand up straight in Carter’s grasp. I don’t even know why I was so scared but I rarely saw Tion unless some bad stuff happened. He wasn’t my least favorite Taylor because I didn’t know him but I knew he meant straight business.

“Wussup, nigga,” Carter unwrapped his right arm to shake up with Fredo then Tion as they both nodded and smiled down at me.

Fredo was always friendly with me but Tion’s smile had me feeling weird. Just relax, Amani. Looking away from them, I tuned out their conversation as the cashier nosily watched them. She had shock written all over her face and I knew she felt what I felt when Tion walked through the doors. I mean, him and his brothers were terrifying but Tion didn’t always grace the public with his appearance. I mean, I rarely saw him at Salimah’s house and Tyrone was always there. And I know he didn’t harbor the same ill feeling for my sister as Torin did for both of us.

“How long you finna be out dis way?” Tion asked Carter who was shrugging and looking down at me as all six eyes fell on me.

“Am I supposed to answer that for you?” I stuttered as the three of them laughed.

“How long I got?” Carter was being funny as I rolled my eyes. “Since nobody can come to da crib but me—”

“Awww, it’s like dat?” Fredo playfully clutched his chest as I giggled. “Damn—Mani Mon!”

“I didn’t mean it like that—”

“You ain’t gotta explain,” Fredo shook his head, still pretending to be fake hurt as I huffed and cackled. “Muhfuckas get they own shit and switch da fuck up—”

“For real,” Tion added with a smirk.

“Nah, but fah real, dats wussup, Shorty.” Fredo pinched my cheeks as I blushed, bowing my head. “I see you and you sistas out here doin’ y’all thing, man—Takin’ care of my niggas and da kids,” he tossed in there as my face screwed up.

“I don’t have kids—”

“Yet,” Carter chimed in causing the men to laugh.

“Whatchu mean yet?” I snapped my neck around to look up at him as his tongue rolled over his lips.

“I ain’t got to it but—”

“Yo food ready,” the cashier cut in as the aroma of freshly fried chicken filled the air.

“After we eat dis shit and smoke a few, I’m on it—”

“Shut up!” I pushed him as he turned me loose to pick up the tin foil covered pan, laughing with the rest of them.

“C’mon,” Carter motioned with his head for me to walk in front of them.

Because his hands were full, Tion opened the door for me and I walked out, going to my car as I felt Carter tugging on my hoodie.

“What are you doing—”

“I’m driving,” Carter told me as he placed the pan on the roof. “Gimme da keys.”

Digging into my pocket to retrieve them, Carter popped the locks and opened the passenger side door for me.
